Running Merge-IT for the First Time
To run
Merge-IT, proceed to the EMAGENIT toolbar
and click the Merge-IT button. In Excel
2007, proceed to the Add-Ins tab and click
Merge-IT. The program will prompt you with
two screens, follow the instructions. On the
second screen which is the Information
screen, leave the Merge-IT product ID box
blank to run the program in demo mode. The
program will allow you to click the "Merge" 20 times before prompting for a
Merge-IT product ID which can be purchased
from EMAGENIT.
Merge-IT Introduction
Our Merge-IT
Excel add-in allows you to select data
arranged in columns or rows on a worksheet
and merge the information into a single or
multiple cells. Merge-IT allows the merged
data to be output to the worksheet
containing the data or any other worksheet
that is open. Merge-IT also allows you to
insert any type of data separator between
the worksheet data that you are merging.
How
to Open and Launch Merge-IT in Microsoft
Excel
To open
Merge-IT in Microsoft Excel, go to the
Windows start button and click it, select
the EMAGENIT grouping under programs, click
on the Merge-IT icon and it will open in
Microsoft Excel. If prompted, click the
Enable Macros button to enable the program.
Once open in Excel, proceed to the EMAGENIT
toolbar in Excel 2003 and below and click
the Merge-IT button. In Excel 2007, proceed
to the Add-Ins tab and click the Merge-IT
button.
How
to Enable Macros in Microsoft Excel
(Merge-IT Not Running)
If Merge-IT
will not run in Microsoft Excel and prompts
you as such, your macros have been disabled.
To enable macros, proceed to Microsoft Excel
Help and type in Enable Macros and follow
the instructions about enabling macros. Note
that you will have to shut down Excel and
re-launch Merge-IT in most instances after
adjusting these settings. Note that Merge-IT
cannot override Microsoft Macro security so
there is no way for our program to control
this feature and enable it for you. If it
could be done, we would have done it for
you.
How
to Purchase and Activate Merge-IT
Merge-IT
automatically prompts you to purchase it
after running it 10 times by redisplaying
its setup Information screen. You can
purchase the software by clicking the
purchase button on the screen then clicking
the purchase button on the website page that
is displayed. EMAGENIT will send you the
product-ID within 3 hrs during our operating
hrs Mon-Fri 8:00 AM-4:00 PM PST. You can
also purchase it by clicking on the Purchase
button to the left. To key in the
product-ID, just launch Merge-IT and type
the ID in the Information screen in the
Product-ID box at the bottom.
Arranging Worksheet Data for Merge-IT
Merge-IT is
capable of reading and merging data arranged
in 4 basic formats on a worksheet.
1. Row
Format: Merge-IT can merge data contained in
the same worksheet row as pictured below.
Merge-IT can also merge data in selected
non-adjacent worksheet columns merging the
data in the same relative row. When merged,
the data will be output in a single column
format as pictured below.

2.
Column Format: Merge-IT can merge data
contained in the same worksheet column as
pictured below. When merged, the data will
be output in a single column format as
pictured below.

3.
Single Column Format: Merge-IT can quickly
merge table data arranged in a single column
format into the first cell of the column
deleting the rest of the selected rows from
the column. This concept is pictured below.
This feature is great for comments spread
out over several rows in a table.

4.
Multi Non-Adjacent Cell Format: Merge-IT can
quickly merge data contained in non-adjacent
cells on the worksheet into a single cell.
How
To Merge Data On A Worksheet
To merge data
arranged in a row or column format on a
worksheet:
1.
Click the Merge-IT button on the EMAGENIT
toolbar.
2.
Activate the worksheet on which the merged
data will be output.
3.
Select the beginning output cell then click
the Select Output…button. This sets the
starting output cell.
4.
Check the Detect value check box if you want
Merge-IT to warn you about overwriting cells
with values or formulas in the output area.
5.
Check the Row check box if you want the
merged data to be output in a single row
format. Standard output is a single column
format.
6.
Activate the worksheet containing the data
to merge. Select the data on the worksheet.
If the data is in non-adjacent ranges,
select the first column or row; hold down
the CTRL key then select the other ranges.
*Note that
you cannot mix column selections with row
selections.
*Note that if
you are selecting multiple ranges, each
range must either be a single column or row
selection.
*Note that
the number of rows or columns must match in
the selection.
*Note that if
the data is adjacent to each other on the
worksheet select the entire range containing
the data (i.e. A2:B12).
7.
Click the Rows option button if you want to
merge cell information in the same row.
Click the Columns option button if you want
to merge cell information in the same
column.
8. Set
the data separator by clicking in the
Separator box and typing it.
9.
Click the Merge button or press the Enter
key to merge the data. *Note that Merge-IT
can be minimized by clicking on the minimize
button found at the bottom of its dialog
box. It can be maximized by clicking on the
maximize button. Note that Merge-IT will
ignore cells with error values in them. It
will also not output to worksheets that are
protected.
How
To Merge Data Into The First Cell Of A Table
Column
To merge data
arranged in a single table column into the
first cell of the column:
1.
Click the Merge-IT button on the EMAGENIT
toolbar.
2.
Activate the worksheet on which the merged
data will be output.
3.
Activate the worksheet containing the data
to merge. Select the desired single column
of data on the worksheet.
4.
Click the Single Column option button.
5. To
delete the rows in your selection not
including the first cell row, check the
Delete empty cells check box.
6. Set
the data separator by clicking in the
Separator box and typing it.
7.
Click the Merge button or press the Enter
key to merge the data.
*Note that
the merged data will be output to the first
top cell in the selected column.
*Note that
Merge-IT can be minimized by clicking on the
minimize button found at the bottom of its
dialog box. It can be maximized by clicking
on the maximize button.
*Note that
Merge-IT will ignore cells with error values
in them. It will also not output to
worksheets that are protected.
How
To Merge Data Contained In Single Cells
To merge data
contained in single worksheet cells:
1.
Click the Merge-IT button on the EMAGENIT
toolbar.
2.
Activate the worksheet on which the merged
data will be output.
3.
Select the beginning output cell then click
the Select Output…button. This sets the
starting output cell.
4.
Activate the worksheet containing the data
to merge. Select the single cells containing
the data to merge by holding down the Ctrl
key and clicking on them. Note that the
order of cell selection dictates the merge
order.
5.
Click either the Rows or Columns option
buttons.
6. Set
the data separator by clicking in the
Separator box and typing it.
7.
Click the Merge button or hit the Enter key.
*Note that
Merge-IT can be minimized by clicking on the
minimize button found at the bottom of its
dialog box. It can be maximized by clicking
on the maximize button.
*Note that
Merge-IT will ignore cells with error values
in them. It will also not output to
worksheets that are protected.
How
To Merge Data From Multiple Worksheets
Merge-IT does
not provide a direct way to merge data
located on multiple worksheets. This
limitation comes from the limitations of
Excel and its programming elements. However
you can merge data from different worksheets
in an indirect manner. To accomplish this
task, merge all your data onto the same
worksheet then do a final merge on the
worksheet.
*Note that
Merge-IT will ignore cells with error values
in them. It will also not output to
worksheets that are protected.
How
To Wrap Text In A Cell
To wrap text
in a cell:
1.
Click the Merge-IT button on the EMAGENIT
toolbar.
2.
Activate the sheet that contains the text to
wrap.
3.
Select the ranges whose text you want to
wrap. Note that you can select none adjacent
worksheet cells by holding down the Ctrl key
during the selection process.
4.
Click the Wrap Text button.
How
To Transform A Worksheet Row To A Column Or
Vice Versa
To transform
a row to a column:
1.
Click the Merge-IT button on the EMAGENIT
toolbar.
2.
Activate the worksheet on which the data
will be merged.
3.
Select the beginning output cell then click
the Select Output…button. This sets the
starting output cell.
4.
Activate the worksheet containing the data
to transform. Select the desired single
worksheet row or column.
5. If
converting a single column to a single row
configuration, click the Rows option and
check the Row... check box. If converting a
single row to a column, click the Columns
option and uncheck the Row…check box.
6.
Click the Merge button or hit the Enter key.
*Note that
Merge-IT will ignore cells with error values
in them. It will also not output to
worksheets that are protected.
Additional Control Settings
Set Output
Cell: This button is used to designate
the beginning output cell. Select the
desired beginning output cell and then click
this button to set it.
Detect
Values Check Box: Check this box if you
want Merge-IT to alert you if cells contain
values in your output area and will be
overwritten.
Row Output
Check Box: Check this box if you want to
output your merged data into a single row
format.
Rows
Option: Click this option button if your
data to merge is arranged on the worksheet
in a row fashion
Columns
Option: Click this option button if your
data to merge is arranged on the worksheet
in columns
Single
Column Option: Click this option button
if your data to merge is arranged on the
worksheet in a single column and you want to
merge it all into the first selected cell of
the column.
Separator
Box: Type the desired characters into
this box that will separate your merged
data.
How to
Close Merge-IT
Merge-IT closes when Microsoft Excel closes and
does not reopen with it. This is by design. To
close Merge-IT so it is no longer present in
Excel without closing Excel, just check the Quit
check box at the bottom of its screen then click
the Close button. This will remove Merge-IT from
Excel. |
